On the shores of Lake Geneva, there is a small village where you can change countries simply by stepping across a sidewalk.
A village split in two by a river that marks the official border: France on the left, Switzerland on the right. In Saint-Gingolph, the border is neither dramatic nor hostile. It is part of everyday life. It finds its way into garbage collection systems, school calendars, currencies, mobile phone plans, and consumer habits. The residents have learned to live with it, to navigate around it, and sometimes even to take advantage of it.
Like a contemporary European fable, the film observes with humor and humanity this imaginary line that shapes our lives, our sense of belonging, and our freedoms.
