Written and directed by Stéphanie Monsenego & Christophe Hermans
Behind the camera stands Alice Seeley Harris, a young British missionary who exposed to the world the atrocities committed in the Congo under Leopold II, the King of the Belgians. Ten million deaths sacrificed on the altar of rubber exploitation and the monarch’s greed.
For four years, Alice engaged in a grueling battle of wills against the king, becoming the first humanitarian whistleblower of the 20th century.
In 1908, she won: Leopold II was forced to hand over the Congo to the Belgian state. Erased by her era, Alice eventually fell into obscurity, but her struggle left its mark on history.
