Synopsis
We all dream, and we would love to understand the meaning of those stories — sometimes frightening — that visit us at night and feel so real. Neuroscience is also deeply interested in this mysterious brain activity. Despite the difficulty of studying it, researchers have discovered that dreams are involved in processes as important as learning, creativity, and even overcoming trauma. The science of dreams, although still relatively young, challenges many common assumptions. It reveals that beyond being a manifestation of our hidden thoughts, dreaming plays a vital role for each of us — and perhaps even for the survival of our species.
