Before closure for renovation (At the Metz Opera-Theater)

Written and directed by Carole Tresca

Synopsis

The Metz Metropolis will be renovating its Opera-Theater between 2025 and 2027. This colossal project aims to transform an 18th-century opera house to meet 21st-century standards. It presents a technical and human challenge, representing a significant leap through time!

By filming the preparations for the last performances during the year before the work begins, "Before closure for renovation" tells a human and collective adventure.

The teams experience their final moments in this opera house they love for its heritage value, its artisanal and traditional techniques, each according to their own history with the place, their profession, and their generation. What are their expectations regarding the changes? How are they supported in this transition by the architect and the Opera-Theater management?

How does each person approach these long months ahead, between the promise of a better work life in more spacious and functional areas and the fear that inevitable modernity will strip the place of its soul?

How does this story reflect the broader changes happening in the world of work in our society?
