Carnival In New Orleans, The Mardi Gras Mosaic

Directed by François Rabaté

Synopsis

In New Orleans, Carnival is perceived as a multifaceted, festive experience in which voodoo enthusiasts, Mardi Gras Indians, feminist "muses" or decadent forty-year-olds partake. It is a colourful kaleidoscope comprising more than 70 different parades that take to the streets of the city during an entire fortnight. Like American society, with its rich contrasts, the carnival enables the expression of unbridled exuberance while providing a powerful outlet for social tension.
